Hi rj_jk

There is no commitment with NPC other than to do the driver training before you do any trips. It is up to you but cost for cost I don't think you can beat our basic training. It is an organised training session with a heavy emphasis on recovery practice. We also have advanced driver training, advanced recovery, sand driver training, and trip preperation. This is all included in your membership. We run the accredited course although we are not and RTO and cannot issue certificates. PM offline if you are at all interested. But for $200 you and your partner can undertake the course and if you decide you don't like the club you needn't renew.

The npc one does look good. Unfortunately we are heading away on 17th march and will be working when the April course is scheduled.

Just a note for anyone following the thread I believe that the April course will be cancelled as most of us who train will be away on the Simpson trip. We will be back on track in May however that is Sand driver training.

While clubs say they do training, in NSW there seems to be a fairly loose interpretation of what that means. Simply tagging along on a club trip, where your providing the regulars with the entertainment ( if you catch my drift) is the "throwing them in the deep end" approach and can scare people off who are not confident or worried about damaging their vehicles.

The Victorian Clubs, at least those that are affliated with the Association seem to take a more systemic approach and clearly set out what will be learned, and effectively are certification bodies. Sometimes large clubs that promote the informal tag-along approach, while well meaning, can be avoiding liability issues and costs by staying away from a certification approach.

Which ever club you choose, simply ask a few questions in advance:

What is the club's training policy? They should have one.
Is there a club training officer? Is he/she a qualified training officer?
Does the club support the 4WD training certification standards?

This is probably where the bureacrats see it all heading:
