OK, I know I'm talking about a different car but when I was replacing my fuel filter in my WG, just for the filter Jeep wanted $260 plus labour. If it was $188 at the dealers, I would've said go ahead. That's my opinion, take into consideration max of 2 hrs plus part, works out cheap. I wanted to replace the fuel pump also and they wanted a ridiculous $1050 for it plus labour. I told them to shove it. Got it all done for $450 at my "old" mechanics, who was good until he started playing up with low quality oils and trying to rip me off with other things thinking I knew nothing about cars.

But yeah, if you want to do it yourself, that's another issue and feeling. You could pick up a filter from the US for a really good price and have the pleasure of bonding with your WH.

Alden,

I get my filters from the US at a fraction of what a dealer wants over here. Changing is fairly straight forward. First of all you need to take off the air intake pipe. On the top of the filter there's a black bleed knob loosen it off slowly it's there to release any pressure if there is any and also to bleed air when you fill the new filter, you don't have to take the knob off though. Unplug the water in fuel sensor. Remove the fuel hoses. To remove the fuel filter loosen the allen bolt and the filter can be removed from it's cradle.

When you get it out remove the 2 screws that hold the water in fuel sensor in the filter. There should be 2 new o rings with the new filter replace them on the sensor.

Fit in reverse order. To fill the new filter with diesel I simply fill it with CLEAN diesel before I put the new filter in, however if you don't want to do this after you have put the new filter in and attached the hoses and reconnected the water in fuel leads you need to prime the new filter to do this attach a suitable hose to the bleed screw and run it to a container and turn on the ignition which will activate the fuel pump, once clean fuel comes out switch off he ignition, close the bleed screw and remove the hose.

I think I have covered it all but it is fairly straight forward.
