I don't see how its a terrible idea? If you use a switched socket then the audio out from the stacker isn't getting to the headunit so there's no background noise or anything. Like I said I ran this setup for a while and it works quite well, the only problem being when the stacker changes discs it cuts the audio input on the headunit for a second or two. Otherwise it was just like a line-input on any other headunit.

It is just you are running a stacker for no reason, you may as well burn mp3's to disc and run the stacker as per normal if you have the CHA-634 which cun run on either M-bus or Ai-net and can be retro fitted to some factory units such as the Falcon head units....

This is true but with a CD you're limited to 70 minutes and yes it's a stacker but if its anything like mine it didn't like skipping back/forward through tracks and prone to skipping etc. If you've got an ipod/phone/etc and can spare $10 in parts and can wield a soldering iron then it's a decent cheap mod to add aux input.

You can get 700mb worth of mp3's to a disc which is 140-150 songs (around 11hrs) per disc depending on the bitrate and my Alpine never skips...

Admittedly running an iPod with songs encoded in ALAC is a better option then mp3 if you have a unit that allows full control of the iPod and not through usb....

Factory stacker and head unit doesn't play mp3s.
