75ah 550cca Exide marine. I thought it would be best to not flatten the main if possible, considering the current a winch draws.

post above edited.....

id still run off the m,ain first, its getting the most charge from the alternator, and as long as you dont turn off it will be ok. Those 2 batteries in parallel will be fine.

I was thinking Dave that the time the winch may be needed most is when she stalls, say in a river crossing hence why I was thing the aux would be better for the initial load. But I will keep in mind what you mentioned as it seems like good advice. I will have to do some more sussing out before I connect up the cables. As you may have guessed I know nothing about winches except price and that Warn are the premium. Thanks Dave.

Winch fitted as you suggested Valpacer. Now to give it a test. Lets hope this Ebay winch is good as his Ebay feedback suggests . What I will say is it was a pretty straight forward fit on to the ARB bar. I did not have to rotate the drum, extend cables or anything else annoying. Only thing is the ARB bars are made with the mount for the steel cable fair lead which looks out of place considering I can not use it with rope, but that has nothing to do with the the winch design obviously .

I have seen winches of all brands give up, but i trust my Warn regularly.

One point i think a lot of people miss is that a lot of solenoid and motor failures are due to lack of battery and alternator capacity, and that will kill any winch no matter what brand. Warn's generally have a lower amp draw for equivalent size too. If you have the standard battery (especially an XJ one) and winch for any amount of time it wont keep up.

I believe its false economy, you have a winch thats cheap to buy, but then when it breaks it costs you more, or you dont get out. But sometimes you can only afford what you can afford, and trust me i've been there!

Dave

PS Yetiboy, you have seen what an entry level Warn can do, and still be operating today!
just a quick? my magnum not working just making a clicking sound ..how do you test them

Yerr the bar installer suggested that. He said pull out one vehicle and allow time for it to cool down in between before pulling another.
