Hitting the TPS will surely break it, it is only plastic...

Throttle position sensor

Now JJ it's every few weeks she'll start to play up, I get under there, back a bolt off and placing an extension bar against the side of the tps, smack it a few time with a ratchet and she'll be good...

If I really gave some herbs getting it on this problem would not exist... but I am still traumatised by my first tps removal

I had similar transmission problems for 6-8 months but only for the first few kms when it was cold, it would run fine for the rest of the day once it had warmed up. The initial symptoms were high revs in 1st gear and not shifting into second, and then very violent/hard shift changes into second gear (again only when cold). I thought it was a TPS problem and went through a few of those, also tried adjusting the kickdown cable but the problem kept returning. In the end I decided to just put up with it since it was only for the first 5 minutes or so on a morning.

A few weeks ago I noticed a rattling noise coming from around the torque converter so I checked the torque converter bolts expecting them to be loose but they were tight. Then I started getting a vibration every time I slowed down just before coming to a complete stop. Eventually it started slipping on take off and before long there was no drive at all (forward or reverse) and the transmission was dead. By this stage the oil was burnt and stinky even though I'd only just replaced it with fresh oil.

I dropped the tranny and swapped it over with a complete spare transmission and torque converter and now it's running better than it has in a long time with smooth gear changes and better acceleration.

I thought I'd share these symptoms on the forum because I did a lot of online searching on different websites for 'shifting problems when cold' and didn't find many answers.
