Default Inner Oil Seal again

Hi all

I've got a leaking inner oil seal on the drivers side AGAIN! This will be the third time since I have owned it and its getting annoying!

Had a similar issue with my old GQ and the only way I could fix it was to sleeve and gusset the shaft. Worth doing on the JK?

Also, just had the 100k service done and they picked up a worn unit bearing on the drivers side, could that be contributing to the leak (still awaiting parts to fix that).

LOL. I'm on my third drivers side inner oil seal (axle) too. Mines a 2012 and i picked it up Jan this year. Not bad for 10mths of ownership. I'm going back for #4 at the next service.. I feel your pain mate. I also think that they may not have actually replaced it yet even though they say they did. Is this a common prob ? I'd like this fixed before i sleeve and gusset the D44 as then they'll blame the mods if it continues.
Cheers
George.

The axle shaft seals for the front diff are installed from the inside, so the diff center needs to come out to do it. Bad unitized bearing won't be helping.

Ok, inner oil seal is really leaking now. I want a permanent fix, don't want to keep having to do this all the time.
There is a camber (about 2.5 degrees positive) issue on one side, so maybe I have a bent housing? Would this be causing the leak? Started after I hit a sheep on the midlands highway (totalled the drag link, I thought that was the only issue, obviously not). Lodged insurance claim, so hopefully I can get it all fixed as one.
If not a 'something bent issue', my old Patrol did the same thing, leaked from the inner axle seal and filled the swivel housing with diff oil, diluted the grease and started leaking. Only permanent solution was a speedy sleeve on the axle and a new seal. Would the same work on the JK?
Thanks for the advice!

Yeah, if you have 2.5° of camber then I would think a bent housing. That would not help a seal for sure and the axle will be pressing on one side harder that the other.

I found this to be the only fix for mine ( besides replacing axle)

Ok, camber has improved, -1.2 degrees either side so not as bent as I thought. Axle shaft is grooved though and evidently no sleeves anymore to fit. So solution is to machine down the shaft and use a TJ seal (same external dimensions, smaller internal) and see how that goes. I know that now becomes the weak point in the drivetrain but its the best I can do with what parts I can get my hands on quickly (it's a daily driver too!).
Wish me luck!
