boritz, my 2007 WH CRD had gone twice, at 50,000Km and at 125,000Km.
On the second occasion one inlet mannifold was replaced also, total cost $4,000
So in a word NO it has not been fixed it is a Mercedes design fault.
Needless to say I got rid of it

Ouch!

Thanks for your comment.

I guess that's what my question was about - your 2007 (MY2006 or MY2007 maybe) had the problem - wondering if later models are not prone to it.

The issue is still rampant on Merc forums regardless of year or body the engine is mounted in. It is also almost used in all Merc diesels up to that motor designation so I doubt year has any bearing on the issue.

HOWEVER as stated probably not all do it but at any rate you can disable it for as little as a pot of beer so it's not really a major concern.

HI Fester
How does one disable it (the swirl motor?) for as little as a pot of beer?
Full explanation & details of the 'fix' would be greatly appreciated.
Are there any negatives after applying the fix?
Does the fix make a catch can (a provent 200) redundant?
Thanks

My CRD has 240,000 k,s on the clock I don't know if the swirl pot had been replaced by the previous owner I bought it with 195,000k,s
I removed the inter-cooler poured a litre of oil out of it had it ultrasonically cleaned did the same to the inlet manifold once I did all this I fitted a provent 200 and a green diesel tune to switch of the EGR
Having done 15,000 k,s since October last year the oil is reasonably clean and the motor sounds sweet
I do use TC-W3 2 stroke outboard oil in the fuel at every fill up I can see this engine lasting for quite a while
If you need a swirl pot motor they are better priced in the states
I checked mine out when I did the manifold and inter-cooler had it ultrasonically cleaned as well as all the pipes and pieces in the inlet tract to be sure

Yes, I had seen info about jumping the wires to disable the swirl-motor.

Blowed if I can find a link to it now for ginga
