What are the issues you have heard of with the CRD? Aside from clutch, I am unaware of any engine issues, they are very solid and, like all diesels, if kept happy in clean oil they are fine!
Having said that, I'm close to 90,000ks and the clutch is still fine. Running 33's on 3.21 ratios and tow vans regularly.

I had a 2008 built CRD Auto (different auto trans to what they 2011 and newer has) and the motor and gearbox were the most reliable parts of the vehicle. Infact they were the highlight of the entire package - brilliant combination for driving on the road and even better off road. Not an LC200 twin turbo V8 or even a Discovery 4 TD that's for sure but plenty of poke. The engine is capable of serious output for a 4 banger but the transmissions will be a weak point (they're both strong and intended to be behind big Hemis but the tiny little italian turbo diesels deliver more torque with much more anger).

Mine was just a sport and while it didn't have the crawl ratio of a Rubicon it had oodles more torque available so using the trans slip to crawl was never a problem. I still reckon they are possibly the best overall package for a weekender offroader available.

But yeh. Everything else turned out to be where problems came from lol.

And I'll never spend money on air lockers again. If I wanted a Locked wrangler it'd be a Rubicon OR a base model sport with few $$$$ sunk into better quality diffs from the states.

G,day Mark, we have got two JKs. Both are 6 months old both autos and both petrol pentastars.

One has 2 " DBOR lift & 33"s and the other has the DBOR 4.5"wild kit with all the fruit and 37"s. Both have front, rear bars, winch, sliders etc.

I have had a couple of highly modded Rangie comp trucks and am happy with the JK. I get about 480kms to a tank of fuel on 37"s with standard ratios and it goes/drives the same as the JK we have on 33"s (JK with 33"s is getting about the same km's to a tank city driving).

I guess it depends on what you want to do with your JK as to wether you get a Rubi or Sport. The reason I went with the sport was after doing some research and talking to a lot of people, I wanted to run 37"s and engineer the JK so it was legal with 37''s (is the only legal modded 4WD I have had lol) so the D30 & D44 will be coming out and in will go D60s so couldn't justify the expense for the Rubi seeing I am pulling out the diffs to run D60's.

Also I have heard that the D44 housing isn't any stronger than a D30 housing so after sending heaps of money strengthening Rangie diffs and axles with KAM lockers, Maxi Drive axles, KAM CV's tubing and sleeving housings, KAM C/W & Pinions, machining swivel housings etc I figured D60"s were a better option than spending money strengthening the D44's. After the money saved by not buying the Rubi and then having to strengthening the front D44 diff housing, changing ratios etc D60's work out to the same cost.

Just my opinion.

Cheers and good luck, Im sure you will be happy with your new Jeep.

Thanks for all the responses. Issues with the diesels; I heard this on a Landy forum from a guy who had a diesel jk and a defender 90 as well. He had injector problems I think it was and it had been sitting in a garage waiting for parts for months. Apparently parts for the diesel engines are hard to get.

I also have done the obligory Internet search when looking into new cars and others have had dramas with the diesel and the new pentistar engine seems very good.

Thanks again

Mine has had 2 injectors under warranty replaced. one before I owned it, and one a few weeks after I got it (was playing up a week or so after I got it)
You can get the injectors from the UK for around 500 pounds, which is a bit cheaper then the 2500 each jeep want
