Default Automatic Belt Tensioner 3.7L

I have been experiencing a metallic rattle noise on lower revs at idle/start up over recent months. Only happens when the engine reaches a particular rev. and disappears when you are under or over that rev point.

Last service it was investigated and found to be the Belt Tensioner Assembly. Seems the body of this unit is twisting under load and emits an audible sound (rattle) only at low revs.

I have sourced a replacement from Rockauto {#89254FN} Belt Tensioner Assembly $72.18US including Freight.

Anyone else had in experience with this issue??

Ive got a metalic rattle sound but only when driving which i was assuming to be the rear hand brake because of the type of sound. Might be something l need to look at. Ebay sells the whole kit with belt and pulleys for about $140 i think.

Sorry Mate, only just noticed this. try just replacing the wheel with a 90mm
Commodore V6 one, normally about 30-40 dollars. The bearing is what will be making the noise.

I don't know if you remember the rattle that was in mine when we were at west Kunderang? just when it came off idle,it turned out to be the tensioner reaching the end of its travel as the last belt I put on turned out to be a couple of mm longer than the old one. I too bought a new tensioner from RockAuto thinking that was the problem, so I now have a spare one.

I"m thinking it is something to check first, I took the belt off the tensioner and marked it across the two pieces with the edge of a file at the end of its travel in both directions then put the belt back on and the mark on the moving piece was just inside the mark on the fixed piece with the motor not running, but with motor running it was a different story, I could see the marks lining up in time with the chatter, changed belt back to the old one I replaced earlier and noise gone.
