You use the dipstick - you know, the one that Chrysler decided that Jeep drivers were not smart enough to use.... Should be a plug where the dipstick should be with a note saying something like Dearler Use Only....

I used a mitsubshi magna engine dipstick, cut off the handle and drilled a hole thru the top and attached some thick copper wire to make up the length.
The dipstick should touch the bottom of the gearbox pan.
Then its just measurements off the bottom between 90mm and 150mm from memory depending how hot it is.
