I can get a set of 18"x8.5" wheels for the right price.I want to end up with 33" total or slightly smaller.

What's the best tyre choice?
Is it worth the hassle?
Too much wheel not enough tyre?
Pros and Cons?
Any input?
What size sidewall am I after?
What width tyre am I after?

Your right, to much wheel not enough side wall. Great for the road but useless offroad, not enough sidewalk flex

I suppose it depends on how much time you plan on spending off road. If you're after a tough look and occasional off road should be fine but noisy (and expensive). Have a look what Nitto Tire have, they seem to be pretty good for lower profiles.

The profile will be the same as my 30s on 15s (7.5" sidewall) which is still pretty darn good, but better under diff clearance than me!

i have 18s with 35" x 12.50 nito muds & there still isnt enough sidewall.
I have to get 1 of my mags repaired next week.

Might handle better on the road but would ride a bit firm? If that's the case then they are not much good for the road either unless you are after bling only.
