Default winch solenoids stuffed??

I finally got around to fitting my winch a couple of weeks ago. It's a second hand T-Max that I have had in my shed for about 12 months (waiting till I had a bar to fit it to) and know that it was working well when I bought it.
When I gave it a test run it winched out for about 2 inches then stopped. Then on each application after that all I could hear was a clicking sound from the control box. I then removed the cover and with my hand across both solenoids I could feel both solenoids clicking.
So to my "tech" questions:
Does this scenario suggest that the solenoids are stuffed, presumably from lack of use or age?
Are they serviceable or are they throw away items?
As this unit is a few years old is there a more modern replacement control box that is interchangeable?
I know that I should probably be emailing this question to T-Max directly but I would value all feedback on this forum more.
Any information or direction would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Give them a quick tap with a soft hammer - also clean up your terminals and check the earth connections

Yeah, those symptoms sounds more like a flat battery / low voltage. Low voltage can also be caused by poor connections so I would be undoing all the connections, cleanup and redo.

It also could be the brushes sticking in the motor, so in addition to giving the solenoids a tap I would be giving the motor casing a tap too.
