Default Do MTU sell replacement cylinder heads for diesel XJ engine?

Hello,

I am thinking that, worst case scenario, my heads will need replacing at some time sooner or later.

European vendors sell a full replacement cylinder head kit for around 1.6k euros. In a pinch that isn't too horrendous. I've also been quoted a complete, low km engine with turbo for $3,250 (can share details if anyone is interested in that!)

So, I was wondering if anyone had ever tried MTU Parts and gotten part numbers and prices for heads? I know they sell the bolts, which is a good thing.

It would also be great to compile comprehensive XJ diesel parts list for MTU, to save mucking around. Confirming the base engine would go along way to accomplishing that. A few vehicles use the same engine, just with a different rocker depending on which vehicle make it was put in.

I love the idea of conquering the problem of these vehicles being prohibitively expensive to repair through official Jeep parts and service.

There is a after market supplier of cylinder heads that do the 2.5VM diesel heads, I dont use them as the price is round $600 a head (complete new). Your price is not bad, Nobody seems to have any in stock though, I have a set on order from VM (italy) and I wont see them for about 4 - 6 weeks. All other VM parts though only take about 4 - 5 days to get in.

Hey thanks. A few questions please. Did you order them through MTU or did you contact VM directly? Any details/advice for how others can do the same (like what part(s) or engine number should they provide)? How much are they charging?

I wouldn't mind waiting if they are genuine and relatively affordable.

Mudmonster had a set for sale back a while ago.
If you keep good coolant in it & treat it proper, the heads should be fine for a long time. You need to top up the coolant with the corrosion inhibitor from time to time. Mine looses its color every few months, so I give it a top up with inhibitor then.

No it wasn't MTU but I'm prolly not going to give my source, but parts are genuine except a few odd bits. From what I have priced around I'm getting VM parts at a pretty good price and will pass that on to AJOR members where I can.

But I certainly would not be ordering new cylinder heads until you have had your ones hardness tested, its the first thing I do when any alloy head comes off, straight in to Perth Head Exchange to have them checked out. I'm sure someone here can direct you to a good place for your area.

Like any alloy head engine, look after the cooling system and you will have very little issues. Coolant concentration levels should be tested and not guessed.

Yeah Ive been reading up extensively in this forum and so came to recognise that my main priority is getting the cooling system back in shape and improving it from there. Im just concerned the previous owner didnt care about it as much as I do. Head is getting pressure tested due to what appears to be a coolant leak coming from left and right side of the head gasket. Otherwise engine starts and runs fine and doesnt blow smoke.
