You are being taken advantage of, there is not 8 hrs work in it, if it takes a qualified mechanic to undo 13 bolts and press out 6 bushes and a ball joint , hes not a mechanics bumhole, maybe 2hr in total, and that was me scrambling around under the car by myself and making my own press for removing and installing the new bushes, having never done it before, amazes me how some mechanics feel so guilt free when they blantly lie directly to the face of somebody and rip them off, and as other have said, parts can be sourced for 200-500 delivered depending on exacly how many bushes you are replacing, If you only need the rear lower arm to axle, the good ones are these
http://www.jeep4x4center.com/mopar-r...29094aa-m.html
you need two,
if you also need/want to change the arm to body these.
http://www.jeep4x4center.com/mopar-r...28864aa-m.html

But if you do that, it actually cheaper to just purchase the entire arms complete, that way there is no fitting charges to pressing out the old ones and pressing in the new ones, only 4 bolts and 15mins work to swap over each - no special tools required
http://www.jeep4x4center.com/mopar-l...28866aa-m.html

Same for the upper arm, IF the bushes are dead, these are the replacements
http://www.jeep4x4center.com/mopar-u...2088425-m.html
again, IF they are buggered the ball joint will probably be too, so sometimes easier to swap out with an entire new one, so fitting only takes 30mins to an hour if its a bit stuck
you can get a whole one from here

NB - you can also get a "street" version of the parts from Morris 4x4 they are cheaper, see parts list here
http://www.jeep4x4center.com/jeep-st...liberty-kj.htm
but I strongly suggest you go for the Mopar brand

I would talk to Wooders. I have recently done the same thing, and ordered every bush and balljoint in the car except front uppers, for very little. They aren't Mopar but are Raybestos, which are known for making good solid bushes, and Dave himself had no concerns with them unlike the crown brand, as has been mentioned on several other topics, Mopar makes cars from an assortment of parts form other manufacturers. They don't make bushes(oils, coolant, transmission fluid)

Cmohr and Axiom are spot on with their advice..it's exactly what I did and used. The Crown brand is very so so, but Raybestos is pretty good..I've since done the entire front end of mine, including the upper control arms and all other bushes, including sway bar mounting rubbers and lower balljoints. I have no pit or hoist, just a sandy garage floor and lots of 8x8 wooden blocks to keep me safe.
My KJ now has all new shockers, all new bushes, all new balljoints, new rubbers and link arms, front and rear. The only things not replaced were the coil springs, but they were removed, sandblasted, inspected and repainted. All new bolts, washers and nuts replaced the old stuff. The rear end took me about 3 hours and cost just under 200 bucks..the front was a full days work, because I don't have a spring compressor, but it came in at around 600 bucks for parts, the compressor work and sandblasting.. The wheel alignment cost me 30 bucks the next day.
The whole PITA job was under 900 dollars, a few packets of smokes, some skinned knuckles and a whole lot of words I'm sure women and children are not meant to hear!

Obviously, the price of the shockers is not included in the above.

Mine was done in three hours including taking the lower and upper control arms over to a suspension mob (I was in Canberra at the time) to have the old bushes pressed out and the new ones pressed in. Can't remember total cost but including importing parts paying a mechanic to do all the work including getting the control arms to another workshop and back (for pressing) I got change from $1200.
You've got to unbolt the upper control arm from the diff but you don't have to remove it. Mechanics can be good or bad, a good mechanic is worth his weight in gold. Where are you? we might be able to suggest a good mechanic in your area. Check out this thread also http://www.ausjeepoffroad.com/forum/...t=95174&page=8

I normally don't comment on other repairers prcing, as what they charge has nothing to do with me, but...... wholly white man!! to me that price would be all the bushes, shocks, coils, brake rotors, pads, flush..... no wonder Jeep get a shit name for being expensive to repair.

On the other side of the coin though to be fair, if a repairer is not working on Jeeps a lot they prolly arent going to go looking any further than the say Repco, Veales and the dealers for parts. So parts prices are going to be premium.

Regards
Daz
