If you keep an eye out on the FS section D30s come up every now and then. I have seen them sell for around $600-800 regeared, recently rebuilt, 4.1s and locker. One even had the mounts done.

Regards A

I've run 31's on stock gearing for a while and never had an issue. I am of the opinion I could drop 32's in and have no issues (with my particular driving style that is).

I don't think I'd go any bigger than that because I feel like the reduced power would get to me (31's ARE a noticeable drain).

I think there's every chance 35's would be fine on a D35 if you are darn careful offroad but I wouldn't want to have that thought hanging over me when I'm halfway up a slipper hill-climb in the high country!

That said, I think those that get the most satisfaction from their XJ are the ones who spend every dollar wisely and ensure they aren't paying for things they dont need - despite how many might tell them that they do. If my D30 went, I'd scout round for a secondhander at about $200 and slap it in. I'd never pay $1000+ unless it was for a damn good reason.

Am I reading this wrong? Are some people under the assumption I want to run 35s? Just seen it thrown in a few times,,,,,,? All the help in the world won't change the fact I can't afford to do what most are suggesting I should do! Lol. (Jimmyb, you're close enough!!) I have a few spare 30s & 35s, so won't be diff upgrading any time soon. I have a project pathfinder that needs my time and any $ left over! if 4.11 is good for 32s, why would I buy your 3.73s craigperth? :-P I'm still confused as to why new diff gears just can't be put in without all the other necessary parts?! (hes I said necessary!!) Keep chatting guys something good might come out of this. (maybe I'll be wiser eventually!! Lol)
