Judging by your user name, I'm going to guess you are in Brisbane. If you find a mechanic here that DOESN'T try to rape you because you own a Jeep, I'd love to have their details!

If it is any consolation, I don't think most of them do it out of malice; they just don't know where to get the parts. (Wooders.com.au)

Ask them if they will provide a quote sans parts as you want to supply them yourself. I had a quote go from $1800 and 6 weeks for the parts to arrive to $500 and spending $300 in parts that arrived the next day.

I'd still be doing the damper, steering wheel, and hand brake on my own because they are just too easy to pay somebody else to do.

the steering wheel grip does cost around 60-100 for a guy to come out and repair it where there inject a glue to secure it back the the steal frame inside the wheel, i did mine at home with a 2part epoxy in a syringe from bunnings for around $10 just made a few tiny hole in the back of the wheel, worked fine and past the road worthy still holding up now,

id say you would be able to do most the things yourself, short of the windscreen and wheel alignment given you have the time\tools to do it

Corrext me if I am wrong but I was under the belief that steering wheel covers are techincally illegal, as they are not fixed to the wheel and can move around. Unless it is glued on it should fail a test.
I was pulled up years ago with a leather one that was roped on very tightly, just took it off, passed, and put it back on.

Mate your getting raped, order the parts from rockauto, they'll be there in 4 days, buy a manual while your there and spend a day installing them, at a rough guess they'll be a couple of hundred bucks. The parts you mentioned arnt hard to install at all. And learn more about your car while your at it

If a Wheel cover fits tightly & cannot be moved with normal pressure it should pass. I still prefer to see the wheel rebonded properly (usual cost $65 or DIY).
Front wheel alignment check (includes toe adjustment) $55 on computer machine (not necessary but accurate). Rear brake and handbrake adjustment $25 to $50 dependant on whether brakes cleaned at same time or the adjusters are siezed. these are our normal prices Jeep or not.

Other prices sound rather high but I woulldn't citicize until I checked parts prices. Might well be worth that second opinion if you're not comforable doing the work yourself. There is no excuse for charging more because it is a Jeep. You should try working on some of the Euro vehicles. However most good Mechs and I put myself in that category, reserve the right to do the job properly.
