Default Whining sound on belt

Hi all, just did a bit of off roading the other weekend, got pretty muddy and didn't wash the engine or car till the next night.

The next day I turned the car on I hear a whining sound coming from the engine, pop the bonnet and it sounds like it's coming from the belt.

Gave the engine a quick rinse and the sound is still there.

It seems to go once the car heats up and returns only when on cold starts.

Mate of mine with a hilux says he gets it all the time after off-roading and just applies Belt Grip to the belt and it seems to fix the issue.

I'm reluctant to try it yet just wanted to see the consensus from other JK owners here first.

Anyone else ever had this problem and found a fix?

Cheers

Its possible that a bit of shit has got into one of the idler bearings, but I'd say try the belt grip first. it its still there test the idler pulleys by using a long 1/2 extension or screwdriver and hold it to the bolt that secures it (obviously watch it doesn't catch in the belt) the stuffed one will give a stronger vibration throught it.

Which motor? How many Km's has it done? It may be crud insomewhere it shoudl be, but I'd also try the belt grip.

If it's a Pentastar and it's still there after that there's been a few cases in both Jk's and Wk's of the impellor on the water pump making contact and giving off a grinding noise.

That's generally on low "ish" km motors.

Will try the above. It is a 3.8L 2009 with about 65k kms.

Cheers

What's this belt grip stuff? I've got a 12 with about 27k on it now and I've also got a whining noise coming from under the bonnet - it *seems* to be coming from around where the visible belt is looking from the front of the engine - it gets worse when it heats up also :/

You can also hold a cake of yellow soap to the belt very carefully whilst the motors running against the belt pulley side.
