We had a quick look at the bolts yesterday and couldn't see any looseness in them. We suspected that the mounting holes may have become a bit elongated. We'll have thais all checked properly in January. Will probably be ditching this bar and look for a replacement, may PM you James to discuss your spare Best Bars tow bar. Thanks for all the input again & have a great Xmas.
No worries.

In my last photo, the "Mopar" is the one on the left.
The Best Bars is on the right.
The Mopar has perfectly horizontal safety chain points, which are a bit hard to see in the photos. The Best Bars has the diagonal safety chain points.

Have a good xmas!

James,
I obviously got it wrong. From the description in last your post I have the Best Bars one installed.

Hayman-Reese have always been regarded as the best quality Australian Made tow bars, and in fact were the manufacturers of the Jeep brand tow bars supplied and fitted by Jeep dealers when quality was important and price was a secondary consideration.

Also The "Max Down Load/Force" label on the towbar is NOT neccesarily the same as the vehicle manufacturers' recommended Down Load/Weight/Force ..... that is the important figure to adhere to - provided the doesn't exceed the Down Load capacity of the tow bar - in which case it's unsafe to fit and/or use. The vehicle manufacturer specifies enogh down ward force to give effective control of the towed trailer but NOT to exceed the allowable download ( so as not to overload reaer of car and "lift" the front up.

Doctor,
Checked the compliance sticker on the drivers door last night. Max towing is 3500 kg, Max download is 327 kg. Van has a ball weight of 268 kg (measured from weighbridge fully loaded & ready to go). The Best Bars tow bar fitted is up to the loads we are putting on it. The only thing no one ever mention is the forces applied by the Hayman Reese WDH that I use. I am not sure there is an accurate way to measure these by the lay man.

I agree, no way of really knowing the forces a WDH applies to the vehicle.

I have one of these ball weight indicators & as an experiment I left it in place and connected the WDH,

the gauge went from around 200kg to well over 350kg so the actual down force was nearly doubled on the ball itself. I do understand the way a WDH works but this is probably why Landrover don't recommend them.
