Hi Benny I just got back last night 29/12/13
at Bulwer shops
# ice $7.50 a bag
# loaf of bread $5.00.
# bag of fire wood $23.00.
# 20lt Jerry can of fuel $65.00 (can has to be returned)
# 6pk 4xxxx beer $28 each 6 pack.
water = you can get bore water from the showers/toilet blocks at comboyuro point & north point.
it recommends that you boil it prior to drinking, & people drink it but I didnt.
you can buy drinking water in 10lt containers from the shop.
we took drinking water, & empty containers to fill with bore water for washing, I have an under the bonnet hot water shower system, we all had 20ltrs each to shower in per night.
tracks = the inland tracks are starting to get pretty soft & chopped up now
I towed a 6.8mtr tandem wheel camper & 4 adults & 1 teenager.
it felt like a harder trip with softer sand coming back than going up even with less weight ie- 200ltrs drinking water = empty, 4 cartons alchole = empty, 3 x 60lt fridges now empty ect ect.
if they got the rain last night the sand would be all firmed up again.
police:-
police are patrolling the island, they like to sit about 200mtrs up from where the barge lands with high powered binoculars watching all that come off the barge, checking for seat belts, & drink driving. Dont drive off the barge without your seat belt on or a beer in your hand. ROAD RULES APPLY.
Rangers:- are trying to protect their island & will fine you if they catch you doing something wrong ie burning local(bush timber), parking or driving on the dunes, & I found that they dont like it if you water ski/skurf behind the jeep.
North point:-
has really nice rolling waves, crystal clear water (same as everywhere) the champagne pools have alot of sand in them & only work well at high tide but still awsome if your up for getting your jocks full of sand
, the track in is long soft & lumppy, but way better than middle road (that crosses the island)
we drove from Comby point to north point for surf about every 2nd day.
Ship wrecks:-
awesome snorkeling, HUGE FISH, crystal clear water so make a day of it down there.
best times to snorkle is 1hr before & up to 1hr after the high tide, any time before or after that the tide is ripping out too fast & will make it too hard & dangerous. its a long swim so we paddled out with our surf boards & tied them up at the wrecks.
there are nearly enough yaughts & bouts moored in there for new years eave you could nearly walk across to the wrecks.
anyway, we had a ball, best 2 weeks we have had in years, & was worth every $ spent to do it.
cheers Piggy
