Was chatting to kj69 yesterday and he suggested I post this up here. At the end of May this year I'm doing the Shitbox Rally which is where myself and a team mate drive a car worth less than $1000 through remote parts of Australia to help raise funds for Cancer Council. We did this last year as well which saw us drive from Adelaide to Perth going via Uluru and this years route is Perth to Darwin, going via Gibb River Road and the Kimberleys, 4000km all up and we do it in 7 days. Our team name this year is 'Dafuq'.
We've picked a car for the trip, sadly not a Jeep. I did consider it but I already had this car that had been sat on my front footpath for the better part of a year and I wanted to get rid of it. It's a 1989 Nissan Pulsar and I picked it up for the pricely sum of $150. I've spent the last couple of months bringing the car up to scratch, when I picked it up the brakes were completely shot so that's all been sorted and I'm planning to get it registered this week.
There's 250 teams participating in this years rally, plus some support crews to help keep the shitboxes running. Over the last four years the rally has raised $2.9 million for the Cancer Council and in 2014 they're hoping to raise an additional $1.4 million. Each team needs to raise a minimum of $4000 to participate in the rally and at the moment we're sitting at $2458 so not too far off the minimum. Last year we raised over $5000 and we're hoping to do the same this year.
There's some pictures and updates to the cars progress plus pictures of last years rally on our facebook page
https://www.facebook.com/DafuqSBR2014 And theres a heap more pictures, videos and info on the rally it's self on the rally web page
www.shitboxrally.com.au. We also have a donation page setup here:
https://shitboxrally2014.everydayhero.com/au/dafuq plus we can do sponsorship and put stickers on our car for anyone who might be interested.
Last year we did it in a Lada Niva (which broke down and we had to abandon in the middle of Western Australia), this year is a Nissan Pulsar, maybe next year we'll find a cheap Jeep to do it in
