Default Cherokee KK 2010 Problem Starting?!

Hi there,

This is my first time on here, so hello all We are having issues with our 2010 KK, it won't start for the 2nd weekend in a row We had the RAC guy come out last weekend, and he checked the battery and said it was gone. So we ordered the battery guy to come out and fit a new one, he checked it again and said that the battery was fine and the charge on it was good, nothing wrong with it. He said no need to fit a battery and waste our money which at near enough $200 is fine with us!

Now our Jeep mechanic said at the last service that the starter motor was the cause of a problem we had been having. The problem being that when we turn the key, there is a very intermittent problem where the engine tries to start and then fails. It then makes a kind of humming noise until the key is turned off. It's been doing this for a while and then usually always starts 2nd go, until last weekend when it totally failed to start.

We had the same problem at the weekend just there - bummer! Now we can get it reconditioned for approx $200 or have a new one fitted by the Jeep mechanic for $500 plus labour. Our Jeep guy has ordered the part but its coming from the US and won't be here until next week sometime. Should we get it reconditioned? Anyone have any experience of this? If it gets us by for a few months until it pegs out, then that would be fine. We are still feeling uncertain that it is in fact the starter motor at all.

I have also seen some posts saying that this problem could still be an issue with the battery, or indeed the spark plugs. Anyone know anything about this? Could that be the problem here or could it be something totally different? Is there anything that we can try before we have the starter reconditioned or replaced. I would be good to rule out the less major things first.

On the upside, I suppose it's better that our Jeep chooses to pack in at the weekend, major nightmare for my other half getting to work without it during the week. Weekend plans can be worked around eh! Any help is much appreciated as it's going to really going to cause my boyfriend a major problem at work before too long!

If the cause is starter I prefer the recondition one, even with the alternator. With the battery the one i recommend is the OPTIMA D34/78 for petrol engine (sorry I don't know about the diesel engine about the positive pole on the left or right-check on the net) price cost about Aus $286 no more than that.Hope you fixed the problem.
