The dealer is mostly correct..... normal oil is incompatible with the synchro ring material in the manual trans and apparently causes corrosion. ( stretching my memory but IIRC the Sulfur in "normal" gear oil attacks the Zinc in the syncho rings..... )
The only available substitute I could find was made by Redline and at the time was available from Bursons ( but most had to order it in rather than carry it ). It was also about the same price as the MOPAR stuff. RedLine make some first class lubricants so its certainly not a second best option.
I've done about 50,00KM on the Redline and the box is no worse than it was when first fitted, which really isn't saying much as the 3.8 manual trans is a pretty lousy gearbox even when new.
So given the lack of choices and the generally similar cost - bite the bullet and use MOPAR.
