Help!! WK2 A/C condenser gone
My car is only 16 months old and has ticked over just under 60 ks. The air con stopped working yesterday and this morning (Saturday) I took it to a local air con outfit to get it checked. (Currently at Rainbow Beach QLD, nearest Jeep dealer too far away)
After pressure test and dye check, he found that the condenser is cracked. Blowing bubbles. Not the fittings or the pipes, but the actual condenser where the pipes enter it. Non-repairable. A bit disappointing for a car that has only done maybe a 1000 ks offroad, and pretty easy stuff at that.
Not worried about warranty (at least I hope I shouldn't be...) but I am worried about how long this repair might take. We are half way around Oz on the caravan grand lap, a long way from home (Perth)
Am I being paranoid if I assume that there is no way Jeep will have one sitting on a shelf in Australia? And if they don't, it could take weeks and weeks to get one in? I figure I can't check this until Monday earliest, and we are supposed to be catching the barge to Fraser early Monday. At least the forecast is for cool weather...
If I have real trouble with Jeep getting the part in a reasonable time, would it be worth my time to source the part myself from the US? Making sure it's on a plane and not the slowest boat in the world? I don't mind fighting Jeep about the cost or reimbursement. In fact I would happily pay to get it here quicker as long as the cost of the condenser is covered. We just don't have the option of sitting in Brisbane for weeks on end waiting for a part. Has anyone had experience with Jeep in that regard?
