Default Tachometer not working - Help

I have spent much time searching here and google, cant find a solution, can anyone assist again.

My tacho is not working, all else is going fine, all gauges working, dash lights fine. Where does tacho get signal from or any clues to a possible cause, is more annoying than critical compared to other issues I have now sorted thanks to this forum.

So yet again please help and thanks

Should add - except oil pressure gauge, pretty sure that is just the sender, will check that later.

What year is it? I'm not sure about the pre-updates but if it's a post update then the instrument cluster has a self-test mode, hold the trip reset button down as you turn the ignition to ON (but don't start it), odometer display will count 1 through 9 as the gauges sweep through various positions and warning lights come on.

Are you saying now none of the gauges are working?

no everything works except tacho and oil pressure, the hold trip reset and turn key does nothing on mine, "not worried about oil pressure yet", just wanting to get tacho working is proving a very illusive issue, might buy after market one and run off coil.

I know on the 98s a failing alt can make the gauges not work properly but it affected all my gauges including speedo when I had the cluster issue from a failing alt. Hence why I asked. On my 98 the cluster is pretty easy to get out less than 20mins might be worth popping it out and checking the connections on the back.

Regards A
