I did this years ago working in a dealership jump starting a car. My only excuse was that there was no colored terminals. It was my fourth car of the day and yes I was very embarrassed.
Yep, smoke out of the ECU, so you're probably right. I'll check the fuses anyway but suspect that isn't it.

Glad at least to know I'm not the only one to do it!!

Cheers

Ok so have eliminated the battery, fuses, starter motor and alternator, so looking indeed like ECU.

Have pulled it out, going to have a look for signs of damage. Beyond that, may have to put it back in DarrenR's capable hands..

So against better judgement I pulled the ECU apart and visually inspected. I couldn't see any sign of damage (burn marks etc) but decided to stop at one side of the board, due to risk of damaging it (it's glued in pretty tight).

Anyway, I decided to throw I the towel and put it back together. Tried to start it to check I hadn't properly destroyed the ECU by taking it apart and what do you know, she started first time!

Afraid to turn it off now though....

You should apply for a job at a dealership workshop. You have clearly passed the training [emoji23]

Actually got it working though without ordering a part from the US at an inflated price or replacing a perfectly good part, so possibly overqualified...
