To add to what Benn0 said – the Kumhos will be fine if you’ve still got some tread. I got 45k out of them and they probably had 5k left but I wanted the Nitto’s on for a snow trip last weekend.[/QUOTE]

Yeah got plenty left of the Kumhos so thats not a problem.
Thinking if a second set of 18"s would be better on the sand with deflation etc?

Are you towing?

For me I always prefer an LT tyre, because you can deflate them more, and the sidewall can take the impacts. You may be fine with the 20s and kumhos, others seem to do it without problems, as you can read in that thread I posted, some did lose tyres due to impacts at lower pressure.

The guy that bought my 18s (I bought some Jeep black 10 spoke 18inch rims) wanted them because when touring it was easier to get tyres to fit the 18s than it was to get to fit 20s. If you are in the middle of nowhere that might be a consideration.

Hi Mark,
The 18" tyres would be better than 20" when deflated in my opinion offering better floatation, if you get 18" best to get tyres that would suit your main off road passion. I have found the less aggressive treads are superior in the soft sand that is why I said the standard tyres would be fine. I have had a number of cooper tyres over the years but mainly highway to mild A/T tread types as my driving passion is towing my caravan on black top and beach driving.
As BennO states the sump protection plate is what I was referring to, change it to steel before you go.
make sure the setting you choose on the terrain selector turns off the DSC(traction control)
And have fun at fraser , great place!!!!
Regards
MikeY
