please help I am travelling through Gundi on way to Brisbane and my new oil filter has sprung a leak.
any idea wear i can get one for a 4.00lgr petrol XJ

Simply ask for a Z9. It's a common Ford filter and a direct fit on the 4.0L. It's twice the size of the Jeeps filter but that just adds capacity.

Can you just tighten it up? often the seal on the filter goes a bit soft when it gets hot.

This is often caused by failing to remove the old seal... hence you end up with two seals.
