Mine did it all of a sudden
I tried everything to fix it
Finally decided to get the radiator looked at
It was really blocked

Had exactly the same problems you are having

I dont agree, converter lockup should reduce heat from the trans as the converter (the main heat generator) is no longer slipping.

Not currently, but that would really help remove the transmission from the guilty candidates.

classic symptom of blockage in the radiator - a very common fault even on two year old radiators. BUT...before going there why didnt the water pump ever get replaced??? hasnt this been going on for almost 4 years now? thought you were going to do the pump long ago. whats it been doing since Jan 2011 when you last addressed this?

im thinking the water pump impeller is spinning on the shaft at higher rpms or the impeller blades are damaged by electrolysis (make sure all your accessory grounds are good if this is the case). any rust in the coolant? blocked radiator would be a close second. best to check them both while its all apart. this is where i would start if it were me. summer is coming!

I wasn't the OP, just hijacked their thread to keep the information in the one thread.

I think I will get the radiator cleaned for blockages and get the water pump replaced(I am pretty sure they are considered consumables) as its never been touched in the time I have owned the car ~6 years. Thanks for adding the radiator to my list of suspects guys.
