Dimmable or not? Am also a sparky workin at an electrical wholesaler and most direct LED replacements have trouble with dimmers.... either flickering or dropping right out, coz they dont draw enough current for the transformers when dimmed.

Damn wish they did that in QLD.
Since they don't, what are your thoughts on the ebay dimmable LED down lights? 10 x 15w fittings for under $100 delivered? Is there anything to look out for or is it a no go?

(I am not a sparkie by trade but electronics engineering is my background)

you really get what you pay for. Ive heard of really cheap lights get really dull after a year. I payed 35 each for mine on ebay. had them for 1.5 years now. Still going strong.

15w should only be used in bathroom and kitchen
7w to 10w is good for living areas
I would say 7w or less for bedroom if you have more than 1 in there.

If you have dimmable LED's they can still be a problem with normal dimmers. There are several good LED dimmers available from elec wholesalers from (in price order, cheapest first) Sunny lighting, Scholz(look for display with Mark Taylor on it), and Sylvania. I work in an electrical wholesaler and havent heard anything bad about any of them. The Scholz and Sylvania ones have LED illumination and adjustable minimum levels. This can stop flickering of some fittings when dimmed too low.

Agree with BrendanK, 15w is way too bright for ceilings under 3-4m,normally use this wattage for commercial shopping areas, most domestic ones available are 7-10w, choose a warm white in colour for living areas, cool white for bathrooms, laundries and personal choice for kitchens.
