Default Diesel water trap

We are heading off soon to follow the sun. We will be visiting lots of servos away from the coast. I would like to get one of these or similar fitted..
http://www.waterindiesel.com.au/6306/Home/

Just wondering if anyone here has one (or another brand) fitted? Where did you fit it cause I can see much room in the engine bay for it to go?
I have a 2011 WK2 GC CRD.
cheers
Gary

The standard fuel filter on an XJ diesel has a water trap built into the fuel filter. It even has a warning light on the dash when water is in the trap. what sort of filter does the WK2 have? If its a filter with a bowl on the bottom, you should be able to fit a bowl with a water indicator built in. The indicator in your link is very similar to the filter/trap combination except it has a blank piece where the filter element would be.
A standard CAV style diesel filter has a bowl on it. I believe you can get them with plastic ones. Probably with a water sensor as well.
You dont need a separate water trap.

We have 3 diesel jeeps, WH Grand, XH Commander and a KJ Cherokee and all have Donaldson pre filters. They have a glass bowl at the bottom (you don't have to use it) the kits are cheap to buy (about $120) and you get 2 filters with it. The filters are 11 micron ( most of the others like Ryco are 30 micron) and reduces the flow of moisture by 95% and will filter the fuel for other contaminants and remembering the one you looked at does not have a filter it just detects the moisture and alerts you.

As for fitment the Grand and Commander were easy on the passenger side firewall at the top, the KJ was a little harder, same side but much lower and you get at it from underneath. As for yours i can't help you there.

I don't see the point in paying big money for kits with alarms and lights (and no filters ) when the Jeeps already have it. The Donaldson is a great kit for not a lot of money.

And trust me the coast can be just as bad as anywhere for bad fuel.

I like ones with some sort of alarm, a light on the dash is fine.
Most of the time it takes a long time for water to fill the bowl. Most contamination is only a spoon full. Its when filling is done after heavy rain or flooding that you can end up with a liter of rust/muddy water in your tank. If the warning light comes on, turn it off & investigate. Dont wait till the next town. I would never fill at a servo in a low lying area. Often best to go to a depot with overhead tanks.
