Default little help please

hey guys im trying to identify a Jeep and im not 100% sure as the compliance plate is MIA but the guy seems to think it is a J220.... opinions please?

a couple of problems i have that i need to know if they are major or minor

1. No compliance plate (its lost)
2. Toyota 4.2l diesel in it with no engineering or mod plate
3. Will need blue slip

p.s YES i can see where it says J220 (or something similar) on the side but i have learned not to put alot of faith in badges and the front looks wrong anyway

It will be a J200 or a J2000 it won't make any difference either way..the biggest difference is the J2000 has a way better steering set up the box is mounted out on the front cnr of the chassis like all other later model jeeps..the j200 will have it mounted back near the fire wall its a crap set up..the j200 would of probably had the 230 tornado ohc 6cyl and the j2000 would of had the 232 6cyl ..Being jeep nothings exact and there is cross over years for all this stuff...

The razor grille which is on it is from the later year J2000s and it probably should have the rhino grille ..it also looks like the front bumper is off an AMC era fsj ..

The compliance plate won't be a drama any other one from a wrecked J200/j2000 will do..

Its a shame about the toyota motor that could make it difficult to register it also makes it unable to get vintage /club rego (well legally anyway)

It has been forsale for ages its been on/off gumtree or ebay i wouldn't touch it you will be way better off with paying a bit more for a J20 way better steering/brakes /motor/chassis/diffs well everything really ...cheers mick

how are you going to rego it with no plate ?
where is the chassis number to confirm what it is ? (it has to be stamped on the chassis somewhere)

Second pic the badge clearly says J200 - But the badge like the grille could be easily swapped.
Does it look like the compliance plate has been removed? The Road Transport (Vehicle Registration) Regulation 2007 requires a motor vehicle first registered on or after 1st August 1972 to be fitted with a compliance plate. A genuine J200 would be 1963-1965 ie it would not be mandatory. And ADR's didn't start until 1969 so what would it be compliant too
What you really want to see is any evidence of previous registration - ie plates, stickers anything.
Original engine (if J200) would be 230CID (3.8L) so a 4.2L Diesel should offer little problem.
Just make sure it's got a VIN/Body number and chassis number. Oh yeah and an engine number

What Wooders said.
And if the seller is genuine, they won't mind you finding the required id numbers and doing a REVS check.

Is there any previous rego papers??

Even if this vehicle has been built from a basket case, the numbers will still provide enough info to prove if its hot or not...

cheers

btw. It's a sexy lookin truck, eh.
