Default tyre noise

Has anyone found a decent all-terrain tyre for the GC ( yes, a bit of simpson desert sand / Vic high country etc etc that is reasonably quiet on the bitumen ?

Test dove a GC on the weekend that had Bridgestone Dueler all- terrain tyres... the noise from the tyres was horrendous ! made my Wrangler with Muddies seem like a whisper quiet limousine !!!

The idea of upgrading to a GC was to get superior long distance touring ability, but no point if I need to use ear plugs !

I have a set of Pirelli Scorpion ATR's on my WH very quiet on the bitumen and good off road...also have a set of oversize LT Cooper AT3's that I use during outback travels and they are pretty good on the bitumen. Their tread is a bit more aggressive than the Pirelli.

I have done 50,000 kms on my Bridgestone 697's and I will be replacing them with the same tyre before I head off on the Savannah Way later this year. I don't find them particularly noisy.

Bonus: They are the only LT's available in Australia I can find in the original 265/60R18 size.

Cheers

thanks for the info, maybe there was a lot more wrong with that particular car than tyres... 2012 Overland crd. Sounded like tyre noise, but maybe also wheel bearings / rooted transmission... who knows !

Another vote for the Duelers. I swapped out the Wrangler Silent Armour supplied on the Trailhawk for the Bridgestones after 3 punctures on the Savnnah Way, no way was I doing the Gibb with the Goodyears.

Duelers now at 25,000kms, I'd say about 1/3 worn and survived much worse than the Savannah Way with no damage at all.

Just as quiet on the bitumen too, a slight hum on those stony surfaces at speed (eg Hume Fwy) but fine for everyday driving and no trouble in the wet.

I have the Duelers 697's too (on a KL trailhawk, though). Yeah, they have that slight "whirr" - you're aware of them but i'd not describe it as intrusive by any means. I'm very happy with them.

I think the 697's are a newish tread pattern - I've read duelers of old could be quite noisy - possibly the GC you test drove had an older version of the duelers?

I had Dueler 694's I think on my WH, and they were very quiet. Great for towing too. Kept the car very stable compared to the Chinese crap ones I have on now.

Maybe the car you drove had Dueler AT 604's or 661's. They both look pretty noisy.
