That looked liked fun! The renegade looks to be similar in size to the xj. I'd say go for it!

I'm not familiar with the Cape but I have a KL Cherokee Trailhawk and it has an ability to put power to the ground that gives me confidence beyond what I've had in any 4x4 I've driven off road previously (80-series Cruiser, WJ and KJ). As I understand the Renegade uses more or less the same 4x4 systems. Yeah, you need to be mindful of clearance and wheel travel with modern 4x4's but as with anything, pick your lines and take appropriate recovery gear.

So in terms of 'general' 4x4 ability I'd have few concerns, however, if I were doing the cape in the KL, I'd give some thought to water crossings - we've all seen the pics of water over the bonnet on that trip... The KL and Renegade both have 'official' water fording depths of just over 50cm - I'd estimate the lowest point of the air intake on the KL to be maybe 70cm. I'd be thinking about some way of extending the height of the air intake, within the engine bay at the very least, for a little extra piece of mind. That said, I don't know what other parts might be vulnerable to water if the 'official' wading depth is exceeded.

My prediction is the Renegade will be pretty popular to modify - not as much as the JK but still.
And I suspect it will be more capable than most people will give it credit.

Yep, I reckon it'll sell really well, I think jeep will be on a winner with it.

Cheers

How are people gonna mod them though?

I was reading something on another forum that basically said the suspension design means it can't be lifted without huge cost, bigger tyres won't fit, no one is going to make barwork or lockers.... all you can do is light bars, my family stickers and chrome trim accessories!

I'm not saying its a bad vehicle but it's not gonna come close to a real 4wd off road.
