Default Optima Battery

G'day all, I am thinking of getting an Optima Battery for my TJ, wondering if anyone has got any feedback as to whether this battery is any good for the Jeep.
Thanks for any input

Cheers

One of the best batteries you can buy mate. We have been using them in everything for a few years now and definitely don't treat them nicely and they just keep taking a beating without failure, grab yourself a yellow top D34 as they fit the battery bays for the jeeps pretty well. You can also get 2 to fit pretty easily in the battery bay if you are willing to make up a battery tray, just don't use the battery trays that are on the market that mount these batteries on their side, the batteries are fine on their side its just these trays squeeze them out of shape due to the way the tie down works on these trays which will reduce the batteries lifespan.

What area do you live, the cheapest you can get these atm are from an online site which also happens to have a few stores as well. You should be looking at about $295 for a D34, whatever you do don't walk into somewhere like battery world as most retail stores will sting you over $500.

Just been reading a thread in the american wrangler forum.com apparently the optima batteries over there are now made in mexico & are having some problems with the reliability now.

All the modern Optima batteries (there current line up) pretty much have all been made in mexico for nearly 10 years now. Most of the problems with them are people using the small cheap end of the range and expecting them to operate in high current situations.

One has to remember these are deep cycle batteries capable of high current duties so using a small one to run a in continuous high current environment (ie. using it to power a winch) is going to limit its lifespan dramatically. A good size battery like the D34 will happy do both for you, if you plan on smashing it regularly with a decent 12,000lb winch (or similar) then you should be looking at running 2 of them in parallel or keeping the revs up on the engine (which you should be doing anyways), for the average jeep user one is more than enough and the battery will outlast just about anything else you can buy here.

Hi, thanks for the info, I am in the Hunter region NSW, close to Newcastle. I am keen to get hold of one of these as I have seen and read about them online and just wanted some further encouragement, looks like I am off to get a new battery soon, as my old unit is starting to get a bit lazy.
Cheers for all the input guys.
