I'd just like to say to DarrenR thank you for your professional insight, it's not often enough that someone on the tools is willing to talk shop in their own time to help vehicle owners with their faults. Big thumbs up mate! [emoji106]

As above, thanks again Darren for all your professional advice. I have since spent many more hours researching and testing and eventually had the vehicle looked at by a transmission re builder which confirmed my fears about the error code. In short the code being thrown was actually P0736 not P0763 and the reverse clutch pack was burned out. Given the spotty maintenance history and the associated costs to get it back on the road I have sold it on (at a minimal loss) and am considering my options for a lower mileage example.

I must say however that in my short time with this Jeep I was very impressed with the 2.8CRD engine, coming from a past with Land Rovers and Nissans (4.2 NA) it really is an amazing engine, very drive able, plenty of power and something I would have no issue with as a daily driver.

And I am sure you are all wanting to know what the damage for a gearbox rebuild was going to be, it was looking at round $4K all told for a rebuild, which all things considered was not bad considering some of the quotes I got however given the other work it was going to need to put back on the road unfortunately this pushed it over the edge.

Cheers for the thumbs up guys.
Even though a lot of my repair work is newer vehicles such as Land Rover Discovery 3 & 4s, and fit outs on Defenders, the KJ Cherokee is still the most common older model that I work on (or am willing to work on).

A KJ now being two models old represents (I think) great value for money and can be fitted out on quite a lean budget. For what some vehicle owners can pay out on repairs, others could buy a KJ and fit it out.

This is a great example of a fit out on a KJ (also a club member).

Thats a pity, you win some, you loose some.
Yes the 2.8lt VM is a great torquey engine, its puts out close to the same NM as a TDV6 in a Disco 3, Range Rover Sport and certainly will burn either off from the lights!

Well now that you have the bug, you just need to find another KJ CRD.

Regards
Daz
