Check out my Ride(s)
Default Vic High Country - base locations.

Hi there...again. i tend to stalk you all and only pop my head out when I have a question and it's that time again.

Hoping you might be able to help with some camp site or caravan park ideas for a 10 day trip through the Vic high country over the new year. Going with some friends, we have the WK2 (lifted and Nitto Terra Grappler 2 tyres) and they have a 100 series cruiser, and we will both be towing camper trailers. We have a few kids between us all so we were hoping to find a central location or 2 (3) that we could set up for several nights and just do day trips out and back.
please post if you have any suggestions for accom locations and / or any ideas on "must do" 4wd trips with the fam.

Thanks in advance. Brendan

depends on what part of the high country you are going to.
In the new year it will be all dry so no issues with getting stuck.
Dargo is probably one place you could base camp. Biggest problem is a safe place to leave your trailers, they are often stolen if left unattended.

It really depends where exactly you want to go. Good camping along the river near the base of Billy goats bluff. Wonongatta is pretty nice too. But if you are towing a trailer in over new years pull over regularly and let everyone past. Plenty of spots north of Licola too. Plenty of these places will get really busy over new years so I would suggest get to a 4wd only accessible camp site to avoid the majority of the chaos.

Talbotville makes a great base for exploring. You could also look at the sites on the Wellington River on the Tamboritha Rd just outside Licola. If you want to go further east Nunniong or Davies Plain are good too. All can be accessed with a camper trailer.
