Up in Bendigo takeing my sons Subaru up to get registered on my mates tandem took his car off the trailer had it inspected and went to put it back on only to find someone had parked directly behind the ramps
went to move it foward and no start 5 hours later and 105km on the back of a tilt tray with my sons car in tow I finally made it home to the farm(total care just payed for its self.
I was told to remove the starter moter you had to remove front prop shaft ,LH front wheel & inner guard then drop the exhaust .Fortunately this is not entirely correct and all I had to do was remove the prop shaft ,unbolt the starter (battery disconected) then poke the back end above the chasis rail to unbolt the cables.A bit fidley but quicker than removing everything as sugested.
I found the starter I bought 16 months ago was stuffed brushes worn out and comutator severly eroded so I checked out the old one and found internall it to be in reasonable shape took them both down to Kilmore Auto Electrical who found a solinoid on the shelf fitted & tested the starter for $100 .
The OEM starter made by mitsubushi is so much better quality than the aftermarket one I was shocked at the size of the brushes and poor quality plastic brush holders whick I suspect failed .I will post the part Number of the solinoid when I go back out to the shed
