Default TJ info wanted

Hi people, been on AUSJEEP for a while currently have an XJ, decided to retire it and will sell really cheap later on.

I am not up to speed with TJ and would like some inside info, considering spending up to 15K, will mainly be run to work car but will certainly get to play on beaches and tracks so something ready to head off road would be great. JK if in my price range would also be ideal.

Is there any particular model / year to avoid, any common faults, anything really that should be considered before a purchase. I am in South East QLD, so ideally up here would be good.

I did do a bit of a search but like the XJ forum so much info on here was taking way to long to read through it all.

Thanks
Grant

They are a great truck, but like the XJ, don't expect great fuel economy.

I have owned 2 in my time, one of Gen1 and one last Gen.

If you are buying a Gen1, aircon was an option, so you will find some will not have it.

With 15k to spend, you have plenty there to buy one that has mods to it already, and some left over in the bank to do the usual maintenance when you first buy a car like changing all the fluids, checking the brakes and fixing any leaks etc.

Personally I love hard tops on a TJ, better for security also. If you find one with one, better than having to fork out 800-1000 bucks buying one 2nd hand.

Thanks JimmyB, I just saw your excellent post re tj INFO, thats exactly what I needed, as an XJ owner fuel economy has never been a high priority but I know how good it is off road so I am assuming a TJ will be much fun.

They look like pretty big tyres.... stock gearing and brakes on a TJ suck with big tyres.... 31" is the limit for stock gearing and 33" is the limit for stock brakes.(even then its getting sketchy)
