Yeah agree Yeti. I will do another quick test tomorrow before work and post the results.

I belive I have a leak in the egr mainly due to when I replug my MAF sensor back in the car sounds terrible. Unplug it and the car sounds great. I think this causing my issues with the MAF...well I hope it is!

As you know the MAF readings can show the health of the rocker valves
The reading should be taken at idle (760rpm) with operating temperature.

Here is mine.
2006 Jeep Cherokee Renegade KJ Diesel with 137K on the odo.
There is sign of soot buildup around the intake (suspecting EGR blockage).
EGR disabled via ECM reflash.
Location is Brisbane.
MAF reading is 18.4 to 18.6 g/sec (used Torque Pro) at 20c outside temperature.

I'd love to see someone with a similar milage to mine but with clean EGR and intake.

Nob question.....
How do you do the test? I have Torque Pro and the OBDII reader....

Ok re did the test as follows Tom.

Make sure your maf plug is installed properly.
Insert your reader.
Start the car and let idle for 1 min.
Run a maf sensor test on torque pro and it should look like below.

Mine was 18.4 today...yayyyyy. I think I didn't plug it in properly last time and let the car warm up too much. Like KJ75 after a minute of idle your car should be around 20 degree for the test. I'm at 1000ft 300m above sea level so if 19 was brand new well I am bloody stoked.

Hi guys.
Operating temperature means a fully heated car. That means your coolant should be 73c or about there. If you have stuck open thermostat you will never reach operating temperature.

Before the test I would make sure your air cleaner and MAF sensor is clean.
Test must also be done while idle (760rpm).
The test will not be valid with a cold engine as it will be higher than expected (I get over 19.3 when cold, and 18.6 when fully warm engine).

In Torque Pro there is an MAF reading which is what you are after.

At sea level you should be seeing around 17 and over. As Yeti mentioned 15 is not good but it depends on how high you are above sea level.
The higher you are above sea level, the lower your readings are.
Also the outside temperature may also affect your readings. Colder air is denser, so your reading will be higher.

Here is a link with more detail which will explain what reading you should see at different sea levels and what some of the guys in the US are getting.

Also if you were getting 12 and now you are getting 18.4, most likely something was not plugged in or your sensor is failing (clean it with MAF sensor cleaner).

Before I did the ECU remap that disabled the EGR, I also had rough idle when the MAF was plugged in. When I unplugged the MAF (disabling EGR) idle improved. Most likely your EGR is sticking due to soot buildup.
