Angry Hemi 5.7 Rear main seal

So the jeep decided to give me a b-day present a few days early and has recently started showering oil out in the vicinity around the rear of the front skid plate. Although there is a gathering of oil on the sump its mostly concentrated around where the bellhousing and block mate...

Hence I'm thinking its the rear main seal. Has anyone had one of these go / any tips / tricks to do it? I'm almost tempted to just drop the whole motor and replace a few other things while i'm at it.... But maybe that's getting a bit extreme.

Not sure if co-incidence or not but I've also gotten a P0520 error code indicating a faulty oil pressure switch occur at the same time. Also at the same time at dead idle the oil px light now comes on. Raise the idle by literally 50rpm and it goes off. I'm going to put on a oil pressure gauge to check the pump pressure and see if it's within specs (which are min 4psi at idle and 25-110 at 3000rpm) but am considering just replacing the pump to be sure. Looks like an easy job but again, anyone done one before with some hints and tips?

Cheers,
Parso

I don't have any advice unfortunately, but just thought I should reply to keep your thread high and represent the hemi owners
I haven't heard/read of this before, and the CRD is much more common on the forum, so I'm guessing no-one has experience with the real main.

But personally I'd strip the engine down as much as practical and rule-out a sneaky leak running down from somewhere else first.

Well I pulled the inspection plate between the block and bellhousing and its surprisingly dry inside. There is some oil residue but not puddles as i would've expected. Couldn't spot any other obvious leaks so I've pulled the covers off the engine and degreased the living shite out of the engine and will check for leaks over the next few days.

As far as the oil pressure warning light goes i'm still yet to get a gauge hooked up but i'll be replacing the sensor anyway and ordering an oil pump too. Although it may be overkill to replace it, I'll be pulling the radiator in the next few weeks and that involves pulling a heap of other crap out of the front end so I'll have the space and will change it just to be sure. At this rate... i'll have a new motor soon haha.

So after a week I haven't had any further leaks. I did find the hose that connects to the airbox knocked off however I thought this just drew in filtered air to the pcv as it is pre throttle body... maybe this somehow stopped the PCV system working properly possibly pressurising the crankase? That said hopefully it seems like it was just a once off, odd but i'll take it and run with it! I've still ordered a rear main seal just in-case so i have it at hand if i need to head down that path.

The oil px light is still coming on randomly however. I've checked oil pressure with an analogue gauge and all is fine there so I'm confident the P0520 is correctly indicating a faulty switch hence I've got a new one also on the way.

So all good it seems. I'll be getting the car an oil cooler for summer which is fast approaching as it generally seems to run hot so hopefully that will help with that and also help prolong the oil life.

Here's hoping it was just the pressure in the crankcase from the dodgy vacuum hose. A rear main is a pain of a job.
Interesting to see you mentioned a catch can, I ran one on a turbo car few years back but wouldn't think it would save much on the Jeep, although in mine it might help the 4.7 sludging isssue

Oh and happy birthday
