In the meantime some other work is progressing. The 15 year old Warn 8274 winch rollers cleaned and re-plated

Default Bringing the Willys back to Oz ?

Eventually this Willys will end up coming back to South Oz when I semi-retire in about 5 or 6 years.

For something like a Willys Jeep would the Jeep be considered a car or truck and what regulations and hoops would have to be jumped through to get it registered in Australia ?

The body and chassis is circa 1946 but the engine swap is from a late 80's BMW.

Last time I checked, vehicles manufactured before 1989[ish] were controlled by each state or territories transport department regulations.
After that date - vehicles must comply with Federal transport department regulations.

With a 1940's vehicle - and a jeep in particular, you should have a fair amount of leeway.

Best bet would be to hit up South Australia's transport department for proper [reliable] info to keep yourself out of trouble.

Good idea,

Take a heap of photos and sit down with one of the inspectors and get their opinion on my next trip back to South Oz

If you can live with your jeep being called a "STREET ROD", this looks promising.

It does

Full registration would be preferable but this is a good fall back position

I just realised that your jeep is LHD, which is another South Australian category it slots into rather neatly!

Jeez, I wish W.A. had elcheapo fee structures like S.A. does.

Actually, I think W.A. has something similar - but I hear it has been tightened up a lot due to some clubbies pushing the limits / bending the rules.
