clank noise

Hello everybody,

Yesterday nothing, today sounds like metal clanking against each other.

To boot I have a double ear infection so asked a random mechanic in Penrith to listen for me.

He says the water pump pulley is not straight so maybe a bearing has broken, that it should be fixed before the belt snaps.

I dont know, my mechanic is an hour away and don't know anyone in Penrith who wont rip me off.

Any thoughts please?

If you think it's coming from the belt area, take the belt off and turn/twist all the pulleys and feel it one of them is the problem. If it is the waterpump, you can replace it for $35. Just need a few tools and a service manual, which is on this site somewhere.

on my to do list replace 2 pulleys and the belt, as they are unknown age and squeel at startup, probably do WP as well.

look back a few pages or search, there is discussion of the pulley replacement job

if the water pump bearing/pulley has freeplay you can probably feel it even with belt on?...not a good thing
