Got my letter out of the post today too. Here's my thoughts:
Are the dealers likely to screw up my car with the recall, so I end up with no low range?
I have once knocked the key with my knee, but I am not an idiot and can re-start it, but I do get it's a safety recall.
I have a new ignition switch, like Clarky, and it's not as soft to turn through the detentes, so I reckon it's unlikely to happen again.
I just sold a Hemi WH that had the recall done, that dealer screwed up the keys and made it hell for the previous owner before me. I also found it particularly hard to turn the key, one of the keys had a stess fracture near the fob and it was about to break off in the ignition. I bet FCA won't pay for that to be resolved!
There are 3 screws on the 05-07 models that retain the switch to the dash, you could actually use a spacer and set the lock back into the dash about 20mm, virtually eliminating the chance of this happening. Unless you are a basketballer and like to sit close to the wheel!
I am so reluctant to take my car in to them, does anyone else feel the same?
Cheers,
Robert
