If the OP wants to ditch sensors, and go back to carbies, it would be cheaper to sell the XJ, and buy an SJ with a 258 & 5speed (imo)..than slot in the V8..(or even acquire a factory 360 V8 SJ)
At least thats what a guy I bought some spares from did.
He was a mechanic, had modded his XJs and been all over.
When I asked why he was getting out of XJ, and "stepping back" he said he liked them, got slightly better economy!, carbies & minimal electronics
he carried enough XJ spare parts to fix many breakdowns, dizzy, coil, TPS, alt, starter, belt, etc
