Default CRD engine cut out

Was driving along the Freeway when the engine just cut out. no warning or indication.

MIL , ETC ( and ABS I think)

Pulled into the breakdown bay. Tried to restart, turned over but no fire-up.

Did not have my autoenginuity can tool with me, so I disconnected the battery for 30 seconds, and removed the FDCM fuse ( incase it was a transfer case issue)

It started straight away , but MIL etc still on, The transmission was in limp home mode as it would not change gears, but drove OK.

After about 10 more minutes it cut out again, so I put the FDCM fuse back in and disconnected and reconnect the battery.

Starts OK , Transmission OK ,only MIL on. Drove home OK.

Cleared MIL and codes when I got home.

Drove for the next 4 hours OK.

From the scan tool I get: Some of those are due to the FDCM fuse being out and a previous headlight issue

P065a Undocumented trouble code description

Googleing indicates its a Alternator issue probably belt slip( belt is old)

P0335 Crankshaft Position Sensor A Circuit
Not sure if this is a issue or as a result of the alternator

Advice appreciated.

Also do Rock Auto carry the Crankshaft Position Sensor ? if so part number or a alternate source

Hey Dave,

Can't find a P065a code in the OEM manual
There are two codes close;
P0652 & P0653
Both refer to the 5V supply coming from the
Powertrain Control Module

Hope that helps
Cheers

P0335 Crankshaft Position Sensor A Circuit
This is more then likely the culprit in my opinion, there was a recall way back for faulty Crankshaft Position Sensor causing stalling for no reason, once the sensor cools down a bit it works again.

Have you got a link or info on that recall?

Don't think it was a heat issue as teh car started as soon as I reset it via a battery disconnect, and ran fine for a couple of hours after the second reset.

The serpentine belt needs replacing as it's reached 160000km. The mech was meant to do it at the last service, but ran out of time, and to re book it in, which I have not done

I'm going to change the belt and check the alternator and battery connections first.

I couldn't find the actual recall but there is an explanation in this link under "common issues"

Default WH (WK USA) dealer TSBs

To find all the Technical service Bulletins for the WH 2005-20010 vehicles Google WK TSB ,all the dealer info will come up with faults and rectifications needed.

Just updating. It cut out again after about 10 minutes of running. This time I had cleared the codes beforehand and only got P0335 Crankshaft Position Sensor A Circuit plus 2 others (associated probably).

On checking that TSB and removing the sensor it is one older that the date so is covered by the TSB. I've order a replacement from RockAuto.

Have sent a enquiry to FCA, but not really hopeful of anything meaningful from them.
