Default Engine light gives P1263 code

My engine check light recently came up, so I borrowed an obd2 scanner which returned coffee p1263.
I had a read around here and determined glow plug 2 must be on it's way out..
I checked the price of glow plugs at the local distributors and retreated quickly back here to find where else I could get them. $140 and about a week later 4 new etecno glow plugs arrived from Germany.
My neighbour offered to help me out replacing them, however could only easily get to plugs one and two (presuming plug one is near the alternator?). We decided to just swap out plugs 1 and 2 but on removing plug 1 we saw that the car has already been swapped over to 5v plugs. We halted there because of the feast of found permanent damage to the engine.
Is it OK to run one etecno 7v glow plug alongside 3 of the Bosch 5v ones, or do I have to swap them all at once?

I would change them all, and did years ago. Three and four are hard to get to but it can be done with the right tools and extensionsi seem to recall that the intake elbow has to be removed.. An inspection camera helps too. There is a way to test them without pulling them out. Unplug the glow plug module, near the battery, and read the resistance of each plug using an ohm metre. A dead plug will either be short to earth or very high resistance. I seem to recall a good one had a resistance of about 5-7 ohms. This is all in the Service Manual , which you can download from the link at the front of the KJ forum sticky thread section.
Can you run them mixed, maybe, but i wouldn't. Id the bad one and just replace that one if you can't be bothered.

Just out of curiosity, did you do a search here before you posted this question? The reason or asking us that i know this has been discussed before on this forum.

I have a 2007 2.8 diesel. When my no.2 glow plug burnt out my ETC (electronic throttle control) light came on. Maybe yours is not a glow plug fault. On my model the plugs are 5 volt anyway.
My engine light comes on for a couple of days and then goes out with monotonous regularity and has done so for a couple of years. Engine runs normal and perfectly whether light is on or off. Anyone have any ideas on this.

Cheers
Peter

Peter you need to get some codes read out which may point to your engine light problem!

Got them to check engine light at todays scheduled service.
Report stated 'no code shown' but engine light cleared ok.
So none the wiser. Must just be a jeep thing.

Cheers

Just a tempory problem that cleared up and a few drive cycles cleared the code.

The guys on Lost use a mixture of different glow plugs and they seem to get the best result running 5 volt plugs on the 7 volt programming.

My trusty 2002 Export CRD still has its original 11 volt plugs installed with no problems but these older CRDs have a more primitive means of checking the plugs....only gives an error if one of the two glow plug relay coils is open or shorted out....the plugs could be completely disconnected and no code will be posted!
