Default 3rd brake light

Looking for a s/h LED high mount brake light. Was quoted $160 for a new one by local auto elec, OEM unit.

If yours has stopped working it might be dry solder joints. Give it a few thumps with someone holding the brake and if it flickers its likely that. Mine had this issue so i just reflowed the solder joints and all good.

Note that you will need to cut away some of the plastic surrounding the PCB to get access to the solder joints but if you leave enough so it holds together and the plug still clips in correctly you'll be laughing and have saved a decent bit of coin

Thanks, I'll give it a go. The auto elec told me you couldn't get these apart, but we'll see if he's wrong!

You can't really get them apart as such, but a dremel will happily cut some access holes! Just cut away enough around the solder joints so you can get the tip of a soldering iron and a little bit of solder in and you'll be gold.

Parso, you are right! If I tap or press on the light it works, but left alone it won't. After fiddling around I noticed some movement between the circuit board and the plastic it's mounted on, and if I pushed something in there it would stay on. I stuck a bit of plastic in there and it worked for a while, then back to failure.
Will have to try your idea if I can find someone with a dremel tool or think of a way to get some permanent pressure on the cb.
