Have had a number of emails from Penrite and it appears I have opened up a can of worms !!The supplier of their coolant info and the product are currently reviewing their info ,it appears that the Penrite specs for WHs is wrong and it should be a HOAT based product. There is some conjecture now that there maybe a wrong listing for early WK2s. Penrite state that it is extremely difficult getting any information from companies like Chrysler re oil, fluid specs etc. Re our problems with Penrite listing ATF4 in our WH transfer cases a few years back.It took me weeks to convince Penrite this was a wrong listing.

Hi
Same here in Pommie land. Millers oils listed ATF for years as the fluid for the NV245/247. Many others too.

Does anyone know what Mercedes used as the Factory coolant fill on the OM642?

Check out my Ride(s)
Default Coolant

Refer to Mercedes specification sheet 325.0 and later

Mix coolant 50/50 with distilled or de-ionised water

Mercedes uses and recommends "biological biodegradable coolants"
Which can translate to either OAT or HOAT

Spec 325.5 recommends specific acidic corrosion inhibitors
(iron and alloy in same engine)
This narrows it down to OAT

Spec 325.0 (alloy only coolant systems) does not require acid, so HOAT is fine

Hope that's all as clear as mud
Cheers
