Default WK2 Stalling after 2 seconds

Hi Guys,

My sister has a 2013ish WK2 8 speed CRD with 140,000km's on the clock. I've only just found this out but when she starts the car sometimes it runs for a second or 2 then it stalls and illuminates the immobiliser red icon on the dash. She has to turn the car off, open the door, close the door, lock the car, open the door and the car usually starts.

The local dealer has suggested that the key fob may be going flat and to try the other one. Tried this and new batteries in this but no good. Its started getting worse in the last week or so. Also has started getting colder weather of late. It's not throwing a engine light or codes.

The only other electrical fault it has presented is that when we were over playing in some sand dunes, under full boost the engine would stall. Only short bursts of full noise of about 10-15 seconds.

Has anyone heard of this before? HELP!!

We had this exact problem. It was the steering column lock and rf unit which communicates with the fob.

Get the drealer to check these and you should have your answer

Had a similar problem on our 2012 CRD - engine would start and immediately shut down - in our car it illuminated the oil pressure light but never logged a code. Just recycled the key sequence and always started and ran the second time.
Did it only once or twice a month at the start, but gradually progressed to once a week, and dealer after dealer couldn't find an issue.
After about twelve months and 50K a new service manager arrived at our local dealership and I mentioned the problem - he had an idea straight away.
Turned out to be the WIM module - (that's the ignition module that communicates with the key - as posted by Taprod) - it was explained that it was losing connection with the key in the start check sequence and shutting the engine down.
The steering lock is part of this system!! and it was replaced, along with the WIM and both key fobs - all under warranty at 80K on the vehicle.
Fixed the issue.
good luck
John
