This is mine (failed one on the right, new one on the left). Top section is trans cooler and the rest is aircon condenser.

Yep, a brand new unit - it was not required to resolve the problem this time, but I had a trans go bad in an old Patrol I used to have, because the original trans cooler got bunged up with crap and wrecked pretty much everything that could be wrecked, when it all overheated. They popped in an F250 remote trans cooler which did a brilliant job.

In this instance I opted for a remote cooler because it was an opportunity to separate the combined unit, and avoid extortionate costs of a replacement combined unit, if either went bad in the future.

If I hadn't had the problem I had recently, I'd still be using the original one.

The Procedure is in this PDF starting on page 121 (Section 21-615) bottom of the page. Use the graph I posted as it is in degrees Celsius.

Disregard step 10. "Lower the vehicle and add 7.0 L (7.4 qts.) of transmission fluid to the transmission" as 7 litres is WRONG, a TSB was released by Chrysler to warn dealers about the mistake
Clarky, In your opinion is the EVIC display accurate enough to determine the fluid temp? I don't have a scan tool but I'll get one if it's really necessary.

Cheers,
Tony.

My, how time passes when you're having fun.

So a quick update on my "claim" - sent the letter off to FCA, outlining my issues and associated costs (approx. $1200) - expecting nothing. And that's exactly what I got, nothing... at least to start with.

Somewhere along the line, "she who must be obeyed" managed to find an alternative FCA phone number, don't what, or where, or who, but she called them and gave them a bit of a blasting - I've seen her in action and I'd not want to be on the receiving end.

A day or two later I get a phone call from FCA, saying they're referring the matter to the dealership, as it's a service issue, not an "Jeep" issue, per se.

A day later the Regional Manager of the "dealer who shall remain nameless" gave me a call - we talked through the issues, and last month (after a subsequent chase up phone call), I received an apology, and cheque for $1200.

Very happy with that result, and it was pretty quick - I was kind of expecting to have to go to the next stage (small-claims court) before we got any traction, but it seemed 'twas not the case in this instance.

Good outcome. A bit of SWMBO aggression works wonders!
